Derwentwater, Cumbria

A gate and fence stand partially submerged in Derwentwater, one of the most photogenic - and photographed - lakes in the Lake District. Of all the many visits we have made to the county in which Sue spent her childhood, we cannot recall the waters so high in the lakes as they were in October 2006. This was the year in which severe drought conditions prevailed in the South. Clearly the rain that should by rights have fallen in the southern counties of England during 2006 decided to fall on the northern counties instead.

Exposure of 1 second at f/22.

Canon EOS 5D and EF 24-105mm lens.
