Elgol

Sometimes human activity enhances a landscape scene. Shortly before this image was captured, a fishing boat, ploughing its way through the turbulent waters of Loch Scavaig, came to rest at Elgol’s jetty. The fisherman emerged and stood waiting on the jetty in his knee-high boots. Moments later, a white van arrived to take delivery of the day’s catch before being driven off in the evening gloom to…well, only the van driver and fisherman would know where the fish were destined that night. All this activity took place against the spectacular backdrop of Skye’s Black Cuillin hills – for visitors, one of Scotland’s most remarkable landscapes; for the fisherman, a sight seen every day of his working life.
