Rannoch Moor

The love affair which photographers have with Rannoch Moor is only to be expected. There are precious few acres of wilderness left in the British Isles, and Rannoch Moor must rate as one of the most breath-taking. It also must rate as one of the most accessible: the A82, one of the main thoroughfares through to the West Coast, cuts the Moor cleanly in two.

One of the challenges of Rannoch Moor (besides attempting to avoid being struck in the back by one of the many HGVs that thunder along the A82 at breakneck speed) is in finding a composition that (i) hasn’t been photographed 1001 times before, and (ii) doesn’t have a photographer in it. You can count yourself fortunate if you manage to achieve one or the other – such is the popularity of this spell-binding place.

Canon EOS 5D and EF 24-105mm lens.

Exposure of 1/30th second at f/16.
