Birling Gap
Birling Gap, on the Sussex coast, is a fascinating location, with long ledges of chalk and flint extending from the high and constantly eroding chalk cliffs. But with those high, precipitous, unfenced cliffs, it is as much a place of tragedy as it is of beauty. Shortly after this image was made a group of teenagers came into view. They each threw a single rose into the sea, before hugging and comforting each other. It was an intensely sad and poignant sight.
