Birling Gap

We had intended to travel west on this day, but the car park that the M25 has now become put paid to those plans. So we travelled south instead and made our way to Birling Gap, in Sussex. Whether we would have been blessed with such a spectacular sunset had we actually managed to reach our planned destination on the Dorset coast is anybody’s guess, but it’s tempting to hope that while this image was being made rain was falling on Durdle Door!

This composition aims to make the most of the rhythmic ripples in the sand while positioning the sun to ensure that its reflection appears in the water channel.

Canon EOS 5D and EF 16-35mm lens.

Exposure of 0.5 seconds at f/16.
