West Mersea

Boats anchored off the Essex island of Mersea remain thoughtfully motionless while a relatively long exposure of 2 seconds softens the water and allows it to reflect the colours of the setting sun. There are few places in East Anglia where a sunset is as visible as the sunrises for which the area is justly renowned. For those landscape photographers for whom a pre-dawn awakening is anathema, the elusive sunset is both a cause for regret and one of many good reasons to visit West Mersea.
