Mevagissey

Fishing is said to be the most popular pastime in Britain, a claim which most landscape photographers would not dispute. Like different species of waterfowl feeding in the same location, landscape photographers and anglers are often seen together; the former with their tripods, the latter with their rods. The obsession of each is a waiting game. While one waits patiently for a bite, the other waits patiently for the light.

Here in Mevagissey, one of Cornwall’s prettiest and most vibrant fishing villages, the anglers park their cars along the harbour wall – not the most attractive element of the composition if you’re looking out to sea. However, on the other side of the harbour wall the fishermen themselves are a photogenic feature as they stand with rods in hand, waiting patiently for mackerel or pollock to take the bait.
