Kimmeridge
The winter of 2008/9 must surely rank as one of the coldest in years. Shortly after we left home on the journey down to Dorset we noticed that the temperature was –4 C. By the time this image was captured, a little while after sunset, the temperature had soared to a relatively balmy -1 C. Breathing in the cold evening air was rather like inhaling oxygen that had been kept in the freezer for too long. Despite the adverse weather conditions the bay at Kimmeridge was heavily populated by landscape photographers – which just goes to show what a hardy lot we are as a breed.
Admittedly the composition in this image is not exactly innovative, and the sky is disappointingly featureless, but the aim here was to make the most of the fading light as it reflected off the wet pebbles in the foreground.
Canon EOS 5D and EF 16-35mm lens.
Exposure of 30 seconds at f/11.
