This image was captured on a cold December afternoon spent in the warm company of Dorset landscape photographers Mike Woodland and Shawn Haselgrove.
Generally speaking, landscape photography is a solitary pre-occupation, one in which the photographer resists the company of others while engaging with the landscape around him or her. On the other hand, you can’t beat a hearty gossip with some good friends before the aforementioned engagement. And when it’s all over, there’s always the opportunity to exchange views with them and sneak an envious peak or two at their LCD screens.
This image would in all likelihood not have been made had it not been for the company of Shawn and Mike. With their intimacy with and affection for this extraordinary location on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, they were able to offer a guide to the best possible position from which to capture the effects of the sun as it sank on that cold December day.
Canon EOS 5D and EF 16-35mm lens.
Exposure of 1.6 seconds at f/14.
