Anglesey, North Wales

This is the coast near Penmon, on the north-eastern tip of Anglesey. The dark rocks are a product of an excessive use of Neutral Density graduated filters. These filters are most effective when used to balance the exposure difference between the foreground and the sky. When that difference is extreme, the temptation is to use a number of filters to retrieve some balance. Unfortunately, in this case, although detail has been retained in the sky, the filters have darkened the rocks in the middle ground to an unacceptable degree. In retrospect, the solution would have been to place the filters at an angle so that they applied only to the water and to a greater part of the sky.

Exposure of 6 seconds at f/22.

Canon EOS 5D and EF 24-105mm lens.
