Coastal East Anglia 1
Mersea Island, Essex
Mersea Island, Essex
This photograph was taken in March 2006, during what was probably one of the coldest afternoons of one of the coldest winters we can remember.
Mersea Island can only be reached from mainland Essex by a causeway that becomes flooded at high tide. Said to be the most easterly populated island in the UK, Mersea has a distinct island atmosphere - a feeling of isolation - about it, despite the fact that The Strood, the causeway by which the island is reached, is only about 500 yards in length.
Exposure of 1/4 second at f/18.
