Ord Valley
There is a road that runs from the south-eastern side of the Sleat Peninsula across to the village of Ord on the peninsula’s north-western coast. The road – narrow with passing places, as is so often the case on Scotland’s west coast – winds its way across moorland and past deciduous woodland before beginning its descent towards Ord. This view of the autumnal reds, yellows and golds of the Ord Valley in the foreground, and the peaks of the Cuillin Hills in the distance, would have been irresistible even without the grazing cattle, whose presence helps to accentuate a moment of relatively calm rural tranquility. The next day, storm force winds stripped the trees of their glorious autumn foliage.
