Camuscross
Camuscross is located on the Sleat Peninsula in the south of the Isle of Skye. Displaying gentler, softer scenery than is found in the rugged, mountainous north of the island, the Peninsula is home to a wide variety of landscapes: deciduous woodland, green pastures and moorland. Given Skye’s reputation as the “Misty Isle”, there’s a certain paradox in the fact that the four or five hours of light which we witnessed during our week in Scotland in October 2008 all occurred during our visits to the island.
This image of Camuscross was composed with the aim of allowing the rock and weed-strewn water’s edge, together with the trees, to form a rough diagonal through the frame. The trees, placed close to a third, persuade the eye to look beyond the foreground to the Sound of Sleat and Loch Hourn beyond.
The image was captured during a brief spell of fine light that was preceded by one of the coldest and windiest showers of hail in which we have ever walked our dogs. As the locals say, if you don’t like the weather in Skye, just wait five minutes and it will change!
