Ullswater, Cumbria

The sun sets beyond the hills that lie close to Ullswater, one of the Lake District's many lakes. A long exposure of 16 seconds has stilled the water and helped to emphasize the reflections from that remarkable sky.

A friend expressed regret, on viewing this image, that the cluster of rocks included two which were only partially captured within the frame. Certainly the composition would have been much stronger had the cluster been clearly contained within the frame, but unfortunately this was not possible without stepping back and bringing into the picture other rocks which would have disrupted the composition.

Canon EOS 5D and EF 16-35mm lens.

Exposure of 16 seconds at f/22.
