Tower Bridge

Tower Bridge is, of course, one of London’s iconic landmarks. Even on a cool, late September evening dozens of tourists assembled to photograph themselves in front of this picturesque attraction.

In this point of view the aim was to capture a less celebrated (but arguably just as appealing) feature of the old London docks – the lock at St Katherine Dock – in front of the illuminated bridge.

An exposure at this time of the evening is a challenge when the subject matter is so brightly illuminated. High Dynamic Range photography – the art of combining a number of exposures to capture detail throughout the scene - can be an effective technique, but it is one we have yet to master!

This photograph was captured in the company of friends and photographers
Chris Shepherd and Kevin Goodchild.

Canon EOS 5D and EF 24-105mm lens.

Exposure of 6 seconds at f/18.
