Curbar Edge

The "Edges" of the Peak District (Curbar Edge, Stanage Edge, Baslow Edge) are littered with the remains of mill stones, carved and discarded by workers from the time when stone-making was one of the Peak District's main industries.

The composition of this image is intended to foreground the millstone against a valley bathed in the warm light and colour of a late September sunset.

At the moment this image was captured, Joe Cornish was setting up his tripod on the escarpment immediately behind us. Any suggestion that the presence of one of the world's best landscape photographers was a distraction will be treated with the disdain it definitely doesn't deserve.

Canon EOS 5D and EF 16-35mm lens.

Exposure of 21 seconds at f/16.
