Capolona Shrine

This roadside shrine stood a short distance from our holiday house at Capolona, north of Arezzo. As we were photographing, an elderly man arrived to replace the flowers within the shrine, apologising as he did so for walking into the scene. That simple and gracious gesture made us feel uncomfortable with the thought that we were making images of something so sacred to the local people.
