Cromer, Norfolk

These old posts are perhaps remnants of the old wooden jetty built in 1836 and dismantled shortly before the current pier at Cromer was erected at the turn of the last century. Combined with the natural lines and textures in the sand, they have something of the feel of a Japanese zen garden about them. The pool of green water, presumably discoloured by copper residue from the metallic brackets still attached to the posts, helps to enhance that impression of a landscape created not by a sequence of natural events but by man's careful design.
