Coastal East Anglia 2
Bawdsey Manor, Suffolk
Bawdsey Manor lies on the other side of the River Deben from Felixstowe. Now a hotel, the Manor has an interesting military history, having played host to the research and development of radar shortly before the Second World War. Its relationship with the military continued into the 1980s, with surface-to-air missiles being based at the site until 1990. Bawdsey Manor closed as an RAF station in March, 1991. No indication of its military past remains in this quiet, attractive hideaway on the Suffolk coast.
