Orford Ness

Orford Lighthouse stands prominently on Orford Ness, the largest shingle spit in Europe. The Ness, which is owned by the National Trust, is opened at limited times to protect its status as a site internationally recognised for its flora and fauna. For photographers, this does mean that the Ness’s many photogenic attractions, including bizarre architectural features constructed during the period in which the site served as a vital Cold War military testing ground, are not accessible at the most favourable times of the day.

This image was captured on an afternoon spent in the wonderful company of Chris Rudland and Jon Gibbs.

Exposure of 1/12 second at f/20.

Canon EOS 5D and EF 17-40mm lens.
