Walberswick, Suffolk

There is much to photograph in Walberswick, a small coastal village in Suffolk : dark, wooden fishermen’s huts; jetties in varying states of disrepair; rows of black beach huts (painting huts in bright colours is something best left to Walberswick’s neighbours in Southwold); rare grasses growing on undulating sand dunes. But perhaps the location’s most photographed feature are these remains of the old pier. With their gnarled and jagged edges, these algae-covered and, in places, rust-coloured posts are impossible to resist.

Exposure of 1.3 seconds at f/22.

Canon EOS 5D and EF 24-105mm lens.

This photograph was selected to appear at the LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR 2007 AWARD winners exhibition at the National Theatre in London, and in the exhibition book “Landscape Photographer of the Year 2007”, published by AA Publishing.
