Thornwick Bay

Thornwick Bay, a short distance north of Flamborough Head on the East Yorkshire coast, must be a geologist’s Eden. Here can be found such rocks as granite, yellow quartz, sandstone, limestone and chalk – to name just a few. These elements have an equally magnetic pull on the landscape photographer. For although many of us would not be able to tell the difference between basalt and quartz even if our lives depended on it, the way the rocks are formed into ledges, arches, pinnacles and cliffs makes Thornwick Bay an irresistible photographic location.
