Beach Huts, Mersea

Their colours may not be to everyone's taste (the housing estate in Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands comes most immediately to mind) but for photographers these new beach huts (many still unoccupied, and in some places still half constructed) extending in a long line on a beach near West Mersea are a dream come true.

The composition and subsequent narrow crop are intended to emphasize the line of huts as it recedes into the distance, while contrasting their bright, artificial colours with the warm, natural light from the setting sun.

Canon EOS 5D and EF 17-40mm lens.

Exposure of 1.6 seconds at f/20.
