Elgol

This view of the Cuillin Hills' peaks, taken from Elgol on the Isle of Skye, is well known to landscape photographers. Such a remarkable location demands very particular weather conditions for an accurate portrayal of the atmosphere of the place. If the conditions are too bright (and the sun does occasionally shine on Skye) then the dramatic mood is lost; if the rain is falling (and the rain has been known to fall on Skye) then there's the likelihood that the mountains will be lost behind a blanket of cloud. This image was captured after a long wait in the car for the rain to stop falling, although it was only when the photograph was viewed on our PC monitor that it was discovered that rain had in fact continued to fall...onto the camera lens.

Canon EOS 5D and EF 16-35mm lens.

Exposure of 2.5 seconds at f/22.
